B (Craftykid)  has had this idea for awhile for DIY ornaments using the clear ones you can find at a craft store. We were asked to make a ornament craft using Elmer’s paint pens so we thought this would be a great craft to use her idea and make some cute ornaments with the pens.

Supplies:

DIY Christmas Ornaments by CraftyKid (Jen @craftymomof3′s 11 year old daughter)
First we each took out an ornament. On mine I took a black Elmers paint pen and made an outline of a candy cane on it. Then using the same pen I drew a line separating the ball into halves so that I could make one half a solid color and the other my candy cane design. Then I took the red Elmers paint pen and colored in the back half. Then to finish up the candy cane I took the black marker and put lines through it and then colored every other line, red then white to make it look like a candy cane. Then I put the top on and…Presto!  A stunning first ornament.

Next dad designed a funky pink and blue ornament for mom . He drew lines on it separating it like it was an orange . Then he colored in one orange slice with the blue Elmers paint pen. Next she skipped a spot leaving it clear. Then colored the next one pink and continued this process all the way around.  Next my dad put some blue Elmers glitter glue inside . He then put the lid on the ornament and shook it all around hoping it would coat the inside with color. It would not quite work like that . My Dad then had the idea to put in a bit of water (about a third of a teaspoon) to loosen it up.  It worked! Then we left the top off for an hour so it could dry.

I really wanted to make one with a wreath on it . So I gathered two different colors of green paint pens. First I drew a wreath with the darker green color.t Then I quickly colored over it with the lighter colored green paint pen to sort of mix the colors to make it look realistic. After it dried I then put dots of orange glitter glue to decorate the wreath . To finish this up we mixed together in a bowl, glitter, fake snow and tiny styrofoam balls and then  filled the ornament half way with these things, put the cover on and tied a bow around it.
My mom likes snowmen so she made two ornaments, one with snow and one with a snowman. She filled her’s with the fake snow to make them look like a snowglobe.
We then hung them on a string for a festive holiday garland!
